Senior DevOps Engineer

Permanent  |  £65000 - £80000 per annum  |  Central London  |  City of London

Linux  •  Infrastructure  •  DevOps

A 70 million pound turnover organisation are undergoing a large scale re-platforming programme to build a standardised platform for each of the company's business units. We're looking for a talented DevOp to join them on that journey.

The company are split into 5 distinct product teams, all of which have their own unique way of working, with different objectives, different development languages and different methodologies. The underlying infrastructure is similar however not entirely consistent and the objective of this team is to build a common, standardised platform across all units to help the business move forward.

The key technology you'll be using is based around Kubernetes. There are already some clusters in production, but this is going to be expanded substantially, as the company move away from ECS. Kubernetes is not essential for this position, but an understanding of the concepts and an interest in the way Orchestration is changing the way we approach tasks is important. If you have Containerisation expertise, including Docker, that would be advantageous.

As well as an understanding/interest in Cloud, Automation, Containers and everything 'DevOps', we are looking for people who understand the fundamentals of Engineering in a Linux environment. People who are real true problem solvers and have a willingness to dive into the underlying infrastructure to uncover and resolve fundamental issues. People who can even take a deep dive into the Linux Kernel if necessary, who understand the fundamentals of TCP/IP and DNS and are generally curious about technology.

All development is done using Functional Languages (Clojure, Erlang, Elixr, GO and more) and the development team are generally world class. The company have one of the most advanced and sophisticated technology stacks in the whole of the UK.

You will have access to free breakfast and lunch and an overall sense of family/community in the very high spec working environment. This is not a 'free breakfast lunch and dinner' San Francisco-esque ploy to keep you at work all hours under the sun. In fact, they have flexible working patterns to fit around peoples personal needs.

For those of you who like time to think in between pushing out world-class code, there is a games room including a pool table and table tennis. For those of you who like pushing out weights as well as code, there is an onsite gym open 24/7 with free membership (including regular Yoga classes). I can assure you this is not a naff attempt at being another Google. This is a bona fide genuine culture that stems from the founders, down through the Senior Technical leaders and into the entirety of the Engineering function. The company have a very good reputation in the industry, are regular hosts and speakers at conferences and meetups and have really thrown themselves into both the Open Source and Functional programming communities.

If you want to be part of a highly successful technical team, working on a very exciting Kubernetes project please do get in touch. Some of the other tech you'll have exposure to includes AWS, Docker, Consul, Terraform, Vault and Packer.
